Divisorias de Vidro is a town in the municipality of Jundia i.e. the City of Vidro. It is located south of Benidorm, in the province of Cantabria, Spain. The name Divisorias de Vidro em Jundiai is given to the town because it is a former part of Jundia i.e. the Netherlands before its incorporation into Spain.
The name Divisorias is derived from the word "divided" and "vido", meaning "division". The city was known as Jundia in Old times and was ruled by an English Earl. The population at that time was very small and so communication with the outside world was a problem. This caused the town to develop into a market town. Divisorias de Vidro was incorporated as a new town in the year 1960.
Divisorias de Vidro is one of the four cities that make up the region of Jundia i.e. the Southern Jundia. It is also known as the City of Flowers. There are over five hundred flowers species in this city. The oldest buildings are mostly historical and date back to the Middle Ages. The city has a number of churches, fountains, statues, buildings and monuments.
The city of Jundia, now known as Divisorias de Vidro, used to be the seat of the hereditary Dukastetid rulers. The rulers were from the Dukastetid family. But the seat was given to the elected King of Jundia who lives in the City of Vidro nowadays. The population is mainly made up of Christians and the largest number of inhabitants are Spanish-speaking people.
Divisorias de Vidro was a well developed city with a good population. This was the main commercial center of the area and also had a large population of the nobility. It had numerous mosques, schools and colleges. There were also a number of entertainment places such as the famous theatre called the Divisorias de Madrid. This theatre was built during the 19th century.
The other important buildings of the town of Divisorias de Vidro are the fortress called the Alhambra which had been one of the ancient crusades sites, the fortress Fort de la Pleta and also the Castillo de Gibralfaro. The medieval town of Jundia i.e. the City of Vidro was known for being an important trading post in the area of the Andalusian coast.
The city has a modern airport called the Alicante Airport. There are many bus services available to take you to Jundia. Taxis and buses are the most commonly used public transport system to get around the City of Vidro. Taxis are best known for their long journeys but buses are convenient and relatively inexpensive. The airport bus station is quite near the airport. Buses will drop you off at the Alicante Airport and then you can walk to your hotel or resort if you prefer.
